Advanced Pain Management

Advanced pain management techniques can be used if more traditional pain treatments are less successful.

Spinal Cord Stimulation
Spinal Cord Stimulation involves inserting tiny electrical leads into the epidural space in the back, across the area of the spinal cord where the pain is relayed.
An appropriate program of tiny electrical pulses is used to interfere with the pain signal.
Spinal Cord Stimulation may offer relief to patients suffering with significant chronic back and extremity pain that hasn’t responded well to traditional treatment options.
If a trial of this modality proves to be effective, the system can be implanted.
Periodic computer programming can be done using a remote control device to allow for changing pain patterns.

Implantable Intrathecal Pump
Patients with pain that has not responded well to other treatments may be candidates for an Implantable Intrathecal pump.

This therapy offers relief to patients suffering with certain chronic intractable pain that has not responded well to less invasive treatment options.
The procedure involves a minor surgical procedure during which a small medication delivery device is implanted under the skin.
A tiny computer allows precise delivery of medication to the spinal nerves, thus modulating and greatly reducing the pain signals perceived by the patient.
